In January 2023, I was visiting Berlin, Germany and toured the street art/ graffiti found in the former east. I had an immediate connection with all the work but especially with tagging. The shapes found in my work on paper which explores color/shape/transparency, had a connection to the actual lettering of all the tags I saw. On my return to my home studio, I began to manipulate my shapes to form a new kind of alphabet/type. Although I am still refining and exploring the use of language in my work, I see the possibilities which are endless.
